LIVESTREAM: Germany – Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns @Allgäu Comets, Sunday, Sept. 1, 3p CEDT (9a EDT)

The 5-7 Allgäu Comets would have been fighting for a playoff berth when they host the 12-0 Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, Europe #1, at Illerstadion in Kempten, Germany Sunday, September.

This is the first game in a back-to-back series between the two clubs with the Comets needing at least one win in the series against Europe’s #1 team to have a chance of making the playoffs.

However, the loss of starting quarterback Raleigh Yeldell and also his backup, Calvin Stitt, for this game, pretty much ends any hope of a miraculous Comets playoff run. Add to this the loss of starting running back Lennies McFerren due to a one-game suspension after being thrown out of last week’s game, and things are looking pretty dismal for the Comets.

The Comets had been on a roll before being beaten last week by Marburg 36-15. They had won four straight and looked like playoff contenders. Now, they want to finish the season on a respectable note.

The Unicorns enter the game on a 46 game winning streak stretching back to the 2016 German Bowl and have looked just as impressive as ever this year. Nevertheless, Schwabisch Hall has had all they could handle against their last two opponents, the Frankfurt Universe, who they defeated 42-34 and Marburg Mercenaries, finally beating them 42-36.

Unicorns head coach Jordan Neuman will be trying to decide who he should rest with the playoff looming.

Unicorns QB Jadrian Clark is the most efficient passer in the GFL with a rating of 191.7. He has thrown for 3,033 yards and 39 TDs in the 12 wins this year. His top receiver so far has been Nate Robitaille who has 1.053 yards receiving and 14  TDs. Tyler Rutenbeck is right behind him with 39 catches for 964 yards and 17 TDs. As a team, the Unicorns are averaging 160.6 yards rushing a game, second best in the country with RB Maurice Schuele the top rusher with 540 yards.

Offensively and defensively, the Unicorns lead the GFL  scoring 46.5 points a game while giving up just 11.8 points a game.
