On the opening day of the 2023 IFAF European U19 Championships, the Belgian Junior Barbarians travel to Calatayud in the Province of Zaragoza, Spain to take on Team Spain.

The winner of this game will face either the Czech Republic or Switzerland in September in a clash for the 9th spot.

In the 2022 European Group B championship, Spain suffered a pair of losses, first dropping a 24-0 decision to Team Italy and then 28-14 to Great Britain which relegated the Spaniards to Group C.

Under head coach Andy Brutyn, Belgium expects to bring a tough and physical defensive game to balance the playmaking ability of quarterback David Vandromme.

Spain is led by new head coach Honorio Arias (Gijon Mariners) and quarterback Pol Singleton of the Badalona Dracs.
