The ninth annual International Bowl will be broadcast live Friday with some of the finest high school football players in the United States taking on Canada’s top high schoolers.

Each year, the most talented players from across the United States and Canada compete during USA Football’s International Bowl series as top high school-age student-athletes represent their countries in one last game before beginning their college careers.

This will be the third straight year that these two Under-19 teams will play at the home of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas.

The U.S. Under-19 National Team is 7-1 in the International Bowl, including 2-0 vs. Canada. The U.S. is 6-1 overall vs. Canada at this age level.

The United States won the 2017 game 33-11, the 2016 game, 33-0 and the 2015 game, 35-0, with strong performances from players on both sides of the ball. In 2014, the United States defeated Canada, 42-7.

The head coach of the U.S. Under-19 National Team is Elijah Brooks of DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Maryland) High School. Brooks recently completed his seventh season as head coach at DeMatha. Brooks led the Stags to four consecutive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships from 2013-2016, including the program’s first undefeated season in a decade (2016, 12-0).

U.S. National Team alumni include wide receiver Corey Coleman (Cleveland Browns), wide receiver Devin Funchess (Carolina Panthers), running back Todd Gurley (Los Angeles Rams), defensive back Tyrann Mathieu (Arizona Cardinals), offensive lineman Jack Mewhort(Indianapolis Colts), running back Samaje Perine (Washington Redskins), defensive end Stephon Tuitt (Pittsburgh Steelers) and quarterback Jameis Winston (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

Head coach for Team Canada’s Under 19 squad this year is Junior National Team Head Coach Steve Sumarah.

Sumarah coached the Team Canada U18 team to a 44-26 victory over Team USA.

In addition to serving as current Junior National Team Head Coach, Sumarah instructed quarterbacks and receivers for Canada, who were silver medallists at the 2011 IFAF Senior Men’s World Championships in Austria. In 1998, he was the head coach for Team Nova Scotia at the 1998 Football Canada Cup (when it was in the under-19 format).

Currently, Sumarah is in his fifth year as head coach of USports Carleton Ravens. During his time with the Ravens, he led the team to an appearance in the OUA playoffs in 2016.
