The Concordia Bulldogs (2-1) host the nationally ranked Dordt Defenders (1-2) Saturday at Bulldog Stadium in Seward, Nebraska, in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup with plenty at stake for both teams.

Dordt tested early

The record does not tell the whole story for No. 16 Dordt. The Defenders’ two losses have come against top-10 opponents, falling 38-31 to No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan and 35-31 to No. 8 Morningside, with a 41-7 win over Hastings sandwiched between them.

Quarterback Noah Strickfaden has thrown for 749 yards and seven touchdowns with only one interception, while Kaden Harken has 343 receiving yards and four scores.

Bulldogs dangerous through the air

Concordia bounced back from its loss to Hastings by beating Mount Marty 42-24 last week, forcing six turnovers in the process.

Quarterback Gideon Stark has been the engine of an offense averaging 48.7 points per game. The 6-foot-6 senior has thrown for 1,001 yards and 13 touchdowns against just one interception.

The Bulldogs have also won four straight and eight of their last nine at Bulldog Stadium, but history favors the visitors. Dordt has won eight consecutive meetings in the series.

Dutch connection

For European viewers, Dordt carries an obvious connection. The university’s Dutch Reformed roots run deep, while its name traces back to the historic Synod of Dordt, held in Dordrecht, Netherlands.

On Saturday, though, the concern is the GPAC standings. At 1-1 in conference play, neither team has much room to give away another one.
