Something has to give Saturday when the Shepherd Rams (3-0) visit the Kutztown Golden Bears (3-0) at Andre Reed Stadium in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, for an early PSAC East measuring stick between two unbeaten teams.

Both arrive with momentum. Kutztown handled Lock Haven 35-20 last week, while Shepherd knocked off California (Pa.) 28-7. The noon kickoff also gives European viewers a quality NCAA Division II matchup without the usual late-night commitment.

Golden Bears keep rolling

The third-ranked Golden Bears have won 31 consecutive regular-season games dating back to 2023 and are chasing a fourth straight PSAC championship. Fifth-year quarterback Judd Novak remains at the center of an offense averaging 45.3 points and 427.7 yards through three games.

But the Kutztown defense could be just as important Saturday. The Golden Bears are allowing only 33.3 rushing yards per game and held Lock Haven to 39 yards on the ground last week.

Rams bring their own defense

Shepherd has hardly stumbled either, opening with wins over Frostburg State, Gannon and California (Pa.). The Rams are scoring 35.7 points per game while surrendering 20.3 and have intercepted five passes.

Against California, D’Myo Hunter piled up 12 tackles and three tackles for loss, while Reggie Snowden grabbed two interceptions. Freshman Tijuan Reed added 89 rushing yards as the Rams produced 349 yards of offense.

For Kutztown, the challenge is straightforward: slow the Shepherd ground game and force the Rams to chase points. For Shepherd, disrupting Novak and preventing another fast Golden Bears start could turn this into exactly the kind of four-quarter fight expected from two unbeaten PSAC East contenders.
