LIVESTREAM Poland: Warsaw Eagles @ Warsaw Mets, June 6, 14:00 CET (2 pm, 08:00 am ET)

The Warsaw Mets (0-4) will host their cross-town rivals the Warsaw Eagles (0-4) Sunday, June 6 as the Polish Football League winds up its regular season.

One team should walk away from the field with their first win of the season and the Polish capital city’s American football bragging rights.

After a heart breaking 40-37 loss last week to the Tychy Falcons, the Warsaw Mets are eager to get in the win column as their season has been a sad saga of close losses. Former University of Texas passer David Ash has been playing better and better every week as this dangerous Mets offense looks far better than their record. The former Longhorn threw for three touchdowns and ran in another in last week’s barnburner. Ash is currently tied for first in the Polish Football League with nine passing touchdowns.

On defense, standout linebacker Zachary Blair and defensive back Rufail Khalifa have played well together. Blair’s diving interception and solid tackling helped the Mets stay competitive last week as they went toe to toe with a team sitting at the top of the league standings.

Blair commented on today’s matchup with the Eagles:

“With both teams having the goose egg in front of us, I feel a lot teams are gonna wanna watch to see you could be the last seed in this year’s playoffs.”

The cross-town Warsaw Eagles look to bounce back from a 28-0 loss in Krakow two weeks ago. Quarterback Shazzon Mumphrey is determined to get the offense to click and put some point on the board this week against their crosstown rivals.

Mumphrey emphasized the importance of this weeks rivalry matchup:

“Every game is equally important of course. I always say the biggest one is the one in front of you. It just happens to be that this next one in front of us is them. I’m not huge into trash talk and that but yeah, these two teams don’t like each other. One city, two teams in the first league, I wouldn’t expect anything else. The game is also of high stakes because we are in the same situation, badly needing a win to determine if we see postseason or not. I’m sure we both (Eagles and the Mets) feel like this weekend’s contest is winnable. I expect everyone to come out and leave everything they got on the field. This one is huge.”

Look for Lithuanian linebacker Renaldas Macevicius and veteran safety Darrian Winston to be key performers on this defense. Winston is a dynamic special teamer who has quickly made a reputation for himself as one of the league’s best kick returners. Don’t be surprised to see him in the endzone once again today.

Fans should expect a hard fought game as both of these teams see this rivalry game as a great chance for them to get their first win of the season and continue to fight for that last playoff spot still available.
