LIVESTREAM Swedish Semi PPV: Stockholm Mean Machines @ Örebro Black Knights, June 28, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 9 am ET)
The Örebro Black Knights (7-1) and the Stockholm Mean Machines (5-3) renew their rivalry Sunday in the Swedish Superserien semifinals with a place in the Swedish championship game on the line. Although Örebro earned the No. 2 seed, the game will be played at Östermalms IP after renovations to the playing surface at Behrn Arena. Their regular-season meeting was decided by just three points, with the Black Knights rallying for a 23-20 victory, setting the stage for another tightly contested showdown.
Contrasting offensive styles
The matchup features two of the league’s most productive offenses, but they arrive there in very different ways.
The Black Knights own the Superserien’s top rushing attack, averaging 185.8 rushing yards per game. Anthony Ratliff-Williams, Filip Jönsson and Anton Källvik give Örebro multiple dangerous ball carriers, while quarterback Viktor Ekberg and receivers Johannes Lindeus and Jesper Lindeus provide balance when defenses crowd the line of scrimmage.

The Mean Machines, meanwhile, led the league through the air behind quarterback Dawson Herl. Herl completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 2,279 yards, 30 touchdowns and did not throw a single interception during the regular season. Matthew Retzlaff and Anton Blomgren headline one of the league’s deepest receiving groups, while rookie Emil Bentling has added balance to the running game.
Defense could decide it
One of the game’s most intriguing battles comes when Stockholm’s league-leading passing offense meets Örebro’s top-ranked pass defense.
Donovan McConnell, Martin Jäppinen Johansson, Rikard Carlsson and the Black Knights secondary have consistently limited opposing passing attacks throughout the season. On the other side, Alexander Eshagi leads a Mean Machines defense that allowed only 102.1 rushing yards per game, giving them the difficult assignment of slowing the league’s best ground attack. Connor Johnson also made an immediate impact in his debut, adding another playmaker to the defense.
Small margins loom large
Special teams and turnovers could prove decisive in another evenly matched contest.
Örebro enters the semifinal with a +7 turnover margin, while Stockholm led the league at +14 after committing only four turnovers all season. Rasmus Brolin has been dependable in the kicking game for the Black Knights, while Ratliff-Williams remains a constant threat on returns.
With contrasting styles, standout playmakers on both sides of the ball and a berth in the Swedish championship game at Sola Arena awaiting the winner, Sunday’s semifinal promises to be one of the highlights of the Superserien season.
