LIVESTREAM Swedish Semi: Tyresö Royal Crowns @ Carlstad Crusaders, June 28, 17:00 CET (5 pm, 11 am ET)

The Carlstad Crusaders (7-1) and the Tyresö Royal Crowns (5-3) meet Sunday in the Swedish Superserien semifinals with a place in next week’s championship game at Sola Arena up for grabs. Although Carlstad earned home-field advantage by edging the Royal Crowns 35-32 on June 14, this rematch promises to be just as competitive after one of the most entertaining games of the regular season.

Star power on both sidelines

Few semifinal matchups can match the offensive talent taking the field in Karlstad.

The Crusaders are led by quarterback Jackson Erdmann, who finished second in the Superserien with 2,070 passing yards and 27 touchdown passes. His favorite target, Lukas Kullstrand, topped all receivers in the league with 28 catches for 700 yards and nine touchdowns, making him one of the biggest big-play threats in Swedish football.

The Royal Crowns counter with quarterback Trevor Vasey, who ranked third in the league after throwing for 1,937 yards and 23 touchdowns. His receiving corps is equally dangerous. Stefan Borcovic finished second in the Superserien with 59 receptions for 582 yards and six touchdowns, while Abdul-Mujeeb Olayiwola Rufai ranked fourth with 34 catches for 483 yards and five scores.

Ground game versus air attack

The first meeting showed just how different these offenses can be.

Carlstad features the league’s most dangerous rushing attack behind De’Anta Sipp, who led the Superserien with 1,081 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on only 90 carries. The Royal Crowns did an outstanding job limiting his explosive runs two weeks ago, although Sipp still finished with 141 rushing yards on 24 carries.

On the other side, Tyresö relies on its passing game to stretch defenses. However, the Crusaders defense held that attack to 238 passing yards in the regular-season meeting while coming away with two interceptions and two sacks, proving capable of making game-changing plays when it mattered most.

Small details could decide everything

Both teams enter the semifinal dealing with key absences.

The Royal Crowns will be without import offensive lineman Isaiah Foote, who serves a suspension following the previous meeting between the clubs. The Crusaders, meanwhile, lose Albin Forsman for the season after he suffered a fractured foot, although several players unavailable two weeks ago are expected to return.

Special teams, turnovers and discipline may ultimately determine who advances. The previous meeting swung on a late fumble recovery, showing how quickly momentum can change between two evenly matched teams.

With two explosive offenses, defenses capable of creating takeaways and a place in the Swedish Superserien championship game at stake, another memorable battle between these longtime rivals appears to be in store.
