Munich Cowboys Secure 24-13 Victory Over Regensburg Phoenix in GFL Showdown
The Munich Cowboys (1-1) secured their first win of the German Football League season with a solid 24-13 victory over the Regensburg Phoenix (0-3) at Dantestadion. The game showcased the Cowboys‘ offensive capabilities while highlighting the Phoenix’s struggles to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Strong start for Munich
The Cowboys kicked off the game with a bang, as quarterback Nick Semptimphelter connected with wide receiver Gabriel Boccella for a touchdown, giving the home team a 7-0 lead after the extra point by Max Mittasch. The Phoenix attempted to respond aggressively, but their drive stalled, and they failed to convert on a fourth down attempt. Munich took advantage of the momentum, with Mittasch adding a 25-yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0.
As the first half progressed, the Phoenix found themselves inches away from scoring but fumbled the ball, allowing the Cowboys to regain possession. Just before halftime, Semptimphelter found Sebastian Reiner in the end zone, pushing the score to 17-0.
Defensive battle after halftime
The second half saw both teams focus on their defensive lines, resulting in a scoreless third quarter. The Phoenix struggled to build any offensive pressure, while the Cowboys maintained control of the game. Midway through the final quarter, Semptimphelter connected with Boccella again for a 78-yard touchdown, making it 24-0.
Late surge from Regensburg
Despite the deficit, the Phoenix refused to back down. Quarterback Cameron James Yowell found wide receiver Jadon Gildersleeve for a touchdown, narrowing the score to 24-6 after a failed two-point conversion. With just seconds left, Yowell connected with Kevin Evert for another touchdown, bringing the final score to 24-13.
While the Phoenix showed flashes of potential, turnovers and penalties hindered their performance. Head coach Derrick Wilson emphasized the need for improvement as they prepare to host the Cowboys in their next matchup, aiming for their first win of the season.
