New York Jets CB Kris Boyd critically injured in shooting

New York Jets cornerback and special teams standout Kris Boyd was critically injured in a shooting in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. outside a business on West 38th Street near 7th Avenue, according to the New York Police Department. Boyd, 29, was shot in the abdomen and is currently in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.

Details of the incident
Police reported that Boyd was involved in a fight when the shooting took place. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as officers arrived to find Boyd injured. The gunman reportedly fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV, and a Mercedes-Benz Maybach was also seen leaving the area. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his concern for Boyd and his family, stating on social media, “Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence. Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic.”

Boyd’s season and career
This season marks Boyd’s first with the Jets, having signed with the team as a free agent in March. Unfortunately, he has not played this year due to a shoulder injury that required surgery, which placed him on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18. Boyd was expected to be a key contributor to the Jets’ revamped special teams unit under new coach Aaron Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo.

Before joining the Jets, Boyd had a solid career in the NFL, spending four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings after being selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He also had a brief stint with the Arizona Cardinals and spent time on the practice squad of the Houston Texans.

Community support and team response
The Jets organization has acknowledged the situation but has refrained from making further comments at this time. Boyd’s agent has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident. As the investigation continues, the Jets community and fans are rallying around Boyd, hoping for his recovery and safety. Boyd’s resilience and determination have been evident throughout his career, and many are hopeful he will overcome this challenging situation.
