In a tightly contested matchup, the Nitra Knights (3-2) struggled early but finally found their rhythm and came away with an important win, beating the Ostrava Steelers (0-5) 17-6.
Steelers strike first
The game kicked off with both teams playing cautiously, but the Steelers managed to break the ice late in the first quarter. After a lengthy drive, they put points on the board with a field goal from Josef Škerek. In a surprising move, the Steelers attempted an onside kick, but their offense stumbled when quarterback Dexter Russell mishandled the snap, leading to a quick punt.
Knights find their rhythm
The second quarter was a tug-of-war, with neither team able to gain significant ground. The Knights got close to scoring but couldn’t convert, and the half ended with the Steelers holding a slim 3-0 lead. However, the Knights came out firing in the third quarter. Running back Noah Helmi made an immediate impact, and quarterback Desmond Prusia connected with Christian Kúdela for a touchdown, putting the Knights ahead 7-3.
The Steelers responded with another field goal from Škerek, narrowing the score to 7-6, but a failed short kickoff allowed the Knights to regain possession and build on their momentum.
Knights seal the win
In the final quarter, Prusia and Kúdela teamed up again, this time for an 8-yard touchdown that extended the Knights‘ lead to 14-6. The Steelers tried to rally, but a fumble forced by Pavol Horník halted their drive. The Knights capitalized on the turnover with a field goal from Miroslav Večerka, bringing the final score to 17-6.
With this win, the Knights strengthened their playoff hopes, while the Steelers continued to seek their first win of the season.
