Stats leaders remain steady as Finland’s Maple League reaches Week 8

With four games left in Finland’s Maple League the Helsinki Roosters top the league but three other teams are right behind them. The Roosters  have dropped a game but the race is tight. The same can be said of the stats as those top four teams – the Roosters, Porvoo Butchers, Hämeenlinna Huskies and Wasa Royals – have players also occupying the most number of spots.

Helsinki Roosters quarterback Brandon Connette continues to top all passers having thrown for 2,053 yards and 27 TDs.  The gap to second has narrowed considerably though with Hämeenlinna Huskies head coach and quarterback Stan Bedwell not far behind in second with 2,036 yards and 21 TDs. He is followed by Justin Sottilare of the Wasa Royals who has 1,739 yards while Tampere Saints QB Raleigh Yeldell is 4th with his 853 yards . Jordan Moore, of the Porvoo Butchers, who is now out for the year, still remains 5th with 751.

Wasa Royals receiver RJ Long has been the favorite target of QB Justin Sottilare and has hauled in 45 passes for 719 yards to lead the league.Bernard Luster of the Helsinki Roosters is not far behind with his 555 yards and 9 TDs. Hämeenlinna Huskies receiver Roman Runner has jumped up from 5th to 3rd with 516 yards while Timothy Thomas of the Roosters follows in 4th with 495. Niko Lester of the Huskies has now entered the list in 5th with his 431 yards.

The Porvoo Butchers have climbed into 2nd place in the Maple League standings thanks in part to running back Darion Hall who amassed 656 yards rushing and 7 TDs in 4 games before suffering a season-ending injury. Josh Quesada of the Turku Trojans follows him with 612 yards while Jaycen Taylor of the Roosters  is now 3rd with 594 yards rushing. Ricky Stevens joined the Butchers midway through the season but has jumped int 4th with 590 yards. The Vaasa Royals Tom Suoste is 5th with 532.

Vaasa Royals LB Chris Young has been helping to keep his team in games with his defensive play and leads with league with 58.5 tackles. IIkka Koiranen of the Turku Trojans is 2nd at 53  tackles while  Ville-Valtteri Suojanen of the Turku Trojans now occupies 3rd with 51 tackles.  Seinäjoki Crocodiles LB Cory Magwood enters the list in 4th with his 46 tackels while Huskies LB Tahj Jones has 45.4 tackles, good for 5th.
