Offensive leaders emerging as German Football League season takes shape

Five games into the German Football League season, several of the league’s top offenses are beginning to separate themselves from the pack. From prolific quarterbacks in Munich, Pforzheim, Hildesheim and Dresden to explosive playmakers in Schwäbisch Hall and Saarland, the race for offensive honors is already producing some impressive numbers.

Passing race remains tight

The passing leaderboard is packed with standout performances.

Nicholas Semptimphelter of the Munich Cowboys leads the league with 1,623 passing yards while completing 69 percent of his passes. His 17 touchdown passes also rank among the best in the league and have helped keep the Cowboys firmly in the playoff conversation.

Not far behind is Drequan Harris of the Pforzheim Wilddogs, who has thrown for 1,458 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging an eye-catching 16.8 yards per completion.

Nelson Hughes III of the Hildesheim Invaders has arguably been the most efficient passer in the league, completing 71 percent of his throws for 1,386 yards and 18 touchdowns with only three interceptions.

Rocky Lombardi of the Dresden Monarchs has also been outstanding, throwing for 1,351 yards and 15 touchdowns as Dresden remains unbeaten.

Joiner setting the pace on the ground

No player has been more dominant as a runner than Kelley Joiner of the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.

Through five games, Joiner has rushed for 632 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging an incredible 10.5 yards per carry. His ability to create explosive plays has been a major factor in the Unicorns’ unbeaten start.

Ryon Thomas of the Braunschweig Lions ranks second with 457 rushing yards and continues to be one of the few bright spots in the Lions’ offense despite the team’s difficult start to the season.

Tofunmi Lala has given the unbeaten Dresden Monarchs a reliable ground threat, rushing for 277 yards and three touchdowns while helping balance one of the league’s most productive offenses.

PJ Settles of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes remains a dangerous dual-threat weapon. His 256 rushing yards and 7.1-yard average demonstrate his ability to extend plays and create big gains with his legs.

Just behind Settles is Nebechi Abana of the Regensburg Phoenix, who has rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Abana continues to be a key part of the Phoenix offense and one of the league’s most consistent ball carriers.

Receivers producing big plays

Gabriel Boccella of the Munich Cowboys has been the league’s most productive receiver so far, hauling in 41 catches for 702 yards and 11 touchdowns. His combination of volume and big-play ability has made him one of the toughest matchups in the GFL.

AJ Coons of the Pforzheim Wilddogs is averaging an impressive 22.7 yards per catch, while Paul Terjung of the Hildesheim Invaders and Montigo Moss of the Dresden Monarchs continue to be key weapons for two of the league’s most explosive passing attacks.

Joshua Youngblood of the Saarland Hurricanes rounds out the top group, averaging a remarkable 26.9 yards per reception while turning just 17 catches into 458 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
