Opening Day for American football in Costa Rica

The 9th edition of American football in Costa Rica kicks off this weekend with three key games.

Leones Cartago Football Club vs. Búfalos F.A.

The first game of the 2017 season will be between the 2016 runners-up, the Leones, and one of the two debutants this season, the Búfalos, who proved in preseason that they have a lot of potential to scare more than one team during this season. The Leones on the other hand want to take a step towards winning the title they almost had in 2016.

This game is an Eastern Conference matchup. The game will be held at 2:00 pm at the Estadio Municipal de Flores, in the city of San Joaquín, Flores, Heredia.

Toros Football Club vs. Bulldogs F.A.

Playing the second game of the day at the Estadio Municipal de Flores, the Toros will take on the Bulldogs in a Western Conference game.

This is a classic game in Costa Rica as the Bulldogs are defending and five time league champions while the Toros are three time league champions.

Cartago Dragons F.A. vs. San José Lobos F.A.

The third game of the weekend at San Rafael de Oreamuno in Cartago, will pit the Dragons and Lobos in a South Conference game. In preseason action the Dragons managed to upset the Toros while the Lobos, newcomers to the league this year, defeated the San José Titans F.A.

The Dragons have recruited heavily for the 2017 campaign while the Lobos, with their preseason win, look poised to provide some surprises this season.

The San José Titans F.A. are idle this weekend.
