Pforzheim Wilddogs add WR AJ Coons for 2026 German Football League campaign

The Pforzheim Wilddogs have bolstered their receiving corps for the 2026 German Football League season with the signing of wideout AJ Coons, a 6-4, 220-pound target from Solon, Iowa who brings championship experience and sure hands to the growing program.

A well-traveled college standout

The 24-year-old arrives in Europe after a college career that saw him play for three different programs: South Dakota StateWestern Illinois, and South Dakota. His most notable achievement came in 2022 when he won the FCS National Championship with South Dakota State. During his collegiate career, he accumulated 511 receiving yards and two touchdowns while playing over 1,000 total snaps.

Playing style and fit

Coons profiles as a physical, reliable receiver rather than a flashy deep threat. He takes pride in winning contested catches and transforming 50/50 opportunities into completions. His pro day numbers—including a 4.59-second 40-yard dash and 35-inch vertical—demonstrate the athleticism that should translate well to the European game.

The Iowa native was drawn to Pforzheim’s family atmosphere and the club’s developing identity within the GFL. He aims to help the team advance further into the playoffs and compete for a GFL Bowl appearance.

For the Wilddogs, Coons represents another step in building a competitive GFL squad. With his size, collegiate experience, and team-first mentality, he appears to be a solid fit for Pforzheim’s continued development.
