Poland: Bialystok Lowlanders sign New Jersey native Jon Mullin as their new QB

The Bialystok Lowlanders have signed Jon Mullin from Wesley College as their quarterback for the 2020 season.

The Bayonne, New Jersey native will play for the team starting this March through the season’s end in July.

Mullin, 6’2″, 220 pounds, played 18 games for the Wesley Wolverines (NCAA Div. III) from 2017-2019, which included 144 completions for 1835 yards and 14 touchdowns. He recorded his best game this past season against William Paterson as he completed 23 of 32 attempts for 365 yards and three touchdowns.

Wesley went 10-2 overall and 6-1 in NJAC play. The Wolverines finished second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and advanced to the second round of NCAA play before falling to Delaware Valley University, 45-10, at home.

The Lowlanders finished the 2019 season in Poland’s Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego with a 7-3 overall record, reaching the championship final where they were defeated by the Wroclaw Panthers, 28-14.

Mullin was asked about picking the Lowlanders, his background, and his expectations.

What were the main factors for choosing the Lowlanders?

Mullin: This decision was not as easy as I thought it would be but the Lowlanders was the organization that made me feel apart of the family from the first call. The staff is amazing and most of the players have
contacted me, welcoming me and it feels good to be in this position. There were other offers that were presented to me but ultimately the Lowlanders showed the most family atmosphere and determination.

Where did you grow up and what is your sports background?

Mullin: I grew up in Bayonne, New Jersey, in the United States. It is on the east coast in northern new jersey. The sports culture is high and in fact I played three sports in high school: baseball, basketball and
football. In college, I was not forced to decide but I more or less decided to pursue football only after playing my freshman year of baseball in college.

Tell us about your career (High school, College, overseas).

Mullin: In high school, I played at Bayonne High School in Bayonne, NJ. I started quarterback there for two years. After high school, Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, showed interest in me and I committed
there. I played quarterback for them for four years, I periodically played before starting my senior year. In my senior year, I earned NJAC Player of the Week one time and earned NJAC Honorable Mention as a Quarterback.

What do you know about Poland?

Mullin: I do not really know much about Poland but have always wanted to get out of the country and why not explore somewhere I have never been. I have many friends and peers that have been and they
have said nothing but good things. I’m ready to explore and experience a new adventure.

How would you describe yourself as a player?

Mullin: The kind of person I am as a player is a hardworking, dedicated, loyal, trustworthy, and caring. These are qualities I try to exemplify and pass along to my teammates.

What is your chief motivation in football?

Mullin: The brotherhood. There’s nothing like putting the same jersey on as the guy next to you and going to war for them on and off the football field. Also, the support from my family, they never stopped
believing in me.
