The Tychy Falcons from Poland have moved up to the Polish League of American Football’s –  Polska Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego – Topliga and have signed quarterback Shane Truelove for the 2017 season.

The 6’2″, 215 lb native of Norco, California finished his senior year at Oklahoma Panhandle State University (NCAA Div. II) in 2016 throwing for 2,922 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for another 305 and two more touchdowns.

The Tychy Falcons enjoyed a banner year in 2016 recording an 8-0 record in the regular season and outscoring opponents in the playoffs 142-54 to advance to the Topliga.

Needless to say, the Falcons are happy with the signing. Tychy Falcons head coach Lonnie Hursey:

“Shane is a fantastic quarterback and we are excited to have him lead our offense in our first year in the Top League in Poland.”
American Football International asked Shane about his football journey and playing in Poland.

American Football International: How did you come to sign with Tychy?

Shane Truelove: I came to sign with Tychy through Euro Sports Scouting. Brian Prione is the CEO and I’ve been in contact with him directly. He has got my film out to most overseas teams and this was the best offer I had.

AFI: Give us a litte background on your American football journey.

Truelove:  I grew up playing hockey and played football, for the first time, in 8th grade. I played WR at first and got moved to QB my freshman year in high school. I ended up transferring high schools my senior year, for various reasons. I wasn’t highly recruited and chose to go to Santa Ana Junior College. Out of there I had a few offers, none of which were D1. I chose to go to Oklahoma Panhandle State University where I set the single game passing record (610 yards ) and single season passing record of 2,922 yards. In two years, I had 5,000+ total yards and 42 total touchdowns.

AFI: What are you most excited about when it comes to playing in Poland?

Truelove: The obvious thing, is that I get to travel and have a great experience. But one thing I’m looking forward to is leaning (or at least trying) another language.

AFI: What do you think you will bring to the team?

Truelove: I think I can bring leadership and a strong work ethic to the team.

AFI: What are your top goals for 2017?

Truelove: My ultimate goal from this is to continue my football career, and possibly move to a more competitive league. I don’t want to limit my potential and believe sky is the limit.
