Germany: Potsdam Royals remain perfect after convincing road win over Hildesheim Invaders

The Potsdam Royals (5-0) reinforced their status as defending champions and title contenders in the German Football League, defeating the previously unbeaten Hildesheim Invaders (5-1) 44-21 on a scorching afternoon at Friedrich-Ebert-Stadion.

In front of 1,053 spectators and temperatures well above 30 degrees Celsius, the top-of-the-standings clash lived up to expectations early before Potsdam gradually took control and pulled away.

Invaders strike first

The home crowd had plenty to cheer about in the opening quarter.

Quarterback Nelson Hughes led an impressive opening drive, capped by a touchdown run from Jeremie Kwanzambi Beni. With Paul Krause adding the extra point, the Invaders grabbed a 7-0 lead and looked ready for the challenge.

Defensively, Hildesheim also started strong, slowing down one of the most explosive offenses in the league and making life difficult for Potsdam’s running game.

But the champions quickly found their footing.

Quarterback Xeaiver Bullock answered with a touchdown drive of his own, and a successful two-point conversion gave the Royals an 8-7 lead.

Royals seize momentum

The second quarter proved decisive.

Bullock continued to guide the offense efficiently, helping set up a touchdown by Corey Jeeves. After another successful two-point conversion, the lead grew to 16-7.

Then came the biggest play of the half.

Royals defensive lineman Mika Habermann forced a fumble, scooped up the ball and rumbled all the way to the end zone for a touchdown to extend the lead to 23-7.

The sudden swing turned a tightly contested game into an uphill battle for the home team.

Champions finish the job

To their credit, the Invaders refused to fold.

Early in the third quarter, Hughes found a crease in the defense and raced in for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 23-13. The two-point attempt failed, but the momentum briefly shifted toward Hildesheim.

However, the Royals responded every time they were challenged.

Bullock, who accounted for five total touchdowns, continued to make plays both through the air and on the ground. Running back Chrisman Kyei added several explosive runs, while Maximilian McLeod and Peter Martin contributed touchdowns as Potsdam steadily stretched the lead.

The defense also delivered in key moments, including a fourth-quarter interception by Ronaldo Tomasello deep in Potsdam territory that extinguished any hopes of a comeback.

The victory keeps the Potsdam Royals unbeaten and sets up a massive showdown with the undefeated Dresden Monarchs next week. Despite suffering their first loss of the season, the Hildesheim Invaders remain firmly among the top teams in the GFL North.
