Rhein Fire to change name with move to European Football Alliance

The Rhein Fire is set to undergo a significant transformation as they transition to the European Football Alliance. Due to legal requirements, the beloved team name will not carry over into the new league starting January 1, 2026. This change has prompted the franchise to take proactive steps to engage fans in the renaming process.

A new chapter begins
Fans have fond memories associated with the Rhein Fire, including two championships and unforgettable matchdays. However, the move to the new league necessitates a fresh start. Managing Director Daniel Thywissen emphasized that while the name may change, the spirit and unity of the team will remain intact. “A name is one thing. In the end, people are the deciding factor,” he stated, highlighting the importance of community and teamwork.

Fan involvement in renaming
To ensure fans have a voice in this transition, the franchise is inviting suggestions for the new team name through their website until November 9, 2025. All ideas will be reviewed for legal feasibility, allowing fans to play an active role in shaping the team’s future. The new name will be unveiled at a fan release party on December 6, 2025, at the Clayton Hotel Düsseldorf.

Looking forward
The person who submits the winning name will receive a personalized jersey and the honor of performing the first coin toss in the 2026 season at Duisburg’s Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. Thywissen reassured fans that the essence of the organization—community, passion, and excellence—will continue to thrive, regardless of the new name. As the Rhein Fire embarks on this new journey, the commitment to creating memorable football experiences remains stronger than ever.
