SBB Vukovi Belgrade wins showdown in Serbia

The Serbian league has reached midseason and SBB Vukovi Belgrade has definitely reached midseason form as they downed arch rivals the GAT Novi Sad Dukes 28-23 in a pitched battle in Belgrade.

Vukovi quarterback Lewis Kindle ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third while running back Duane Brady scored the fourth. Relja Milivojevic kicked all four PATs.

Novi Sad was led by Chris Griggs who scored all three Dukes touchdowns. Goran Zec kicked a field goal and two PATs.

Vukovi took a 14-0 second quarter lead before the Dukes gained momentum with Griggs scoring his first on a six yard run and Zec adding a field goal to close the gap to 14-10 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Kindle found Simoviću for a 50 yard scoring pass and suddenly Vukovi was back in control 21-10.

Griggs responded for Novi Sad with a five yard touchdown plunge capping a 75 yard drive. But Brady scored his lone touchdown for Vukovi to extend the lead to 28-17. Griggs, who was outstanding for the Dukes found the end zone again late in the game but the two-point conversion failed and Vukovi survived to improve to 3-1.

With the loss, Novi Sad dropped to 2-2.

Next up for Novi Sad is the last-place Sombor Celtis on May 14 while Vukovi will face the Pancevo Panthers.
