Spain: Coslada Camioneros hold off Gijón Mariners for first win of season

The Coslada Camioneros earned their first victory of the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Americano season, holding off a furious late rally by the Gijón Mariners to secure a 21–14 win in a tense Western Conference matchup. The win improves Coslada to 1–1–1, while the Mariners remain winless at 0–3–1 after another narrow defeat.

Camioneros build early lead
Coslada controlled the first half behind the arm of quarterback Sergio Barbero, who connected with receivers Francisco Flores and Iván García for touchdown passes to build a 14–0 halftime advantage. The Camioneros extended their lead early in the second half when Barbero found Flores again for another score, pushing the margin to 21–0 and seemingly putting the game out of reach.

Mariners mount furious comeback
The Gijón Mariners refused to quit, responding with a touchdown run by Yasser Iraola to cut the deficit to 21–6. In the fourth quarter, quarterback Justin Agner connected with fellow import James Payton for another score, and a successful two-point conversion by Carlos Vaz brought Gijón within a touchdown at 21–14. After a missed Coslada field goal, the Mariners drove deep into opposing territory with a chance to tie or win in the final moments.

Defensive stand seals it
With first and goal in the closing seconds, the Camioneros defense delivered its biggest series of the season, stuffing multiple Gijón attempts near the goal line to preserve the dramatic 21–14 victory. The stop secured a badly needed win for Coslada, while the Mariners were left to ponder another heartbreaking finish in a season full of near misses.
