Spain: Defending champion Black Demons roll past Mariners in season opener

The defending champion Las Rozas Black Demons opened their Liga Nacional de Fútbol Americano title defense in dominant fashion, cruising to a commanding 48-6 road victory over the Gijon Mariners at the Complejo Deportivo Las Mestas.

Game slips away before halftime
The Mariners showed early fight, trailing just 7-6 at one point in the first half. However, the experienced Black Demons unleashed a devastating 21-0 run just before the break to take a 28-6 halftime lead, effectively putting the game out of reach and setting the tone for a one-sided affair.

Black Demons’ ground game proves unstoppable
The Black Demons’ offense was ruthlessly efficient, particularly on the ground. Running backs Gonzalo Haro and Daniel Romero combined for five rushing touchdowns, showcasing the team’s formidable rushing attack. New quarterback Diego Lliteras also had a fantastic debut, accounting for three total touchdowns—two through the air and one on the ground.

Mariners’ lone bright spot
The only points for the Gijon Mariners came on a touchdown pass from new quarterback Justin Agner to Yasser Iraola. Despite the lopsided score, the connection offered a glimpse of potential for the Mariners’ new offensive additions moving forward.
