Spanish season kicks off mid January and winds up earlier than ever

The Spanish National American Football League kicks off the 2023 season on the weekend of January 14/15 with a total of 10 teams vying for the title and finishes in late April with the earliest title game in over a decade.

The league will be divided into two five-team conferences and each team will play a total of eight games (four at home and four away) in a double round format with the regular season winding up in April.

The Western Conference will include the reigning champions, Osos Rivas, along with 2022 finalists, the LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons, the Gijón Mariners as well as two newcomers this year, the Alcobendas Cavaliers, champions of the B division who will be making their debut in the top league and Camioneros de Coslada, who are returning to the elite level.

The Eastern Conference will be comprised of the Lidertel Badalona Dracs, Zaragoza Hurricanes, Mallorca Voltors, L’Hospitalet Pioners and Valencia Firebats, who are also returning to the top league.

The top two teams from each conference will qualify for the playoffs and the semifinals are scheduled for the weekend of April 15/16. The championship game, the 2023 Spanish Bowl, is set for April 29/30. This is the earliest date for a title game in Spain since 2008.
