Straubing Spiders sign Cody Kent as new HC

The Straubing Spiders have announced the signing of Cody Kent as their head coach for the 2025 German Football League season.

The 33 year old Marysville, Arkansas native and former United States Marine Corps Sergeant and graduate of Southern Arkansas University will be entering his 10th season coaching. He spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Graz Giants in the Austrian Football League. During his tenure, the Giants finished as the top passing offense in the AFL in 2023 and the second best in 2024. Graz reached the semifinals in both years.

Prior to arriving in Austria, Kent served as offensive coordinator (2021 and 2022) and QB/WR Coach for the Winterthur Warriors in the Swiss National League and coached the quarterbacks for the Swiss National Team against Russia in 2021. From 2019-2021 Kent was the QB/WR/RB/TE coach and OC for Lafayette County High School in Stamps, Arkansas.

Kent is definitely enthusiastic about his first head coaching assignment:

“Humbled and honored is how I feel about signing with the Spiders. Straubing has entrusted me as a first time head coach to lead their football club for the next three years. Our vision of year round development and growth can begin now. This is my fifth season in Europe so it’s been vital in my development of understanding the European football model. This will be a challenge of being a first time head coach, but with my work ethic and dedication to my craft I feel I’m ready for this opportunity. I’m excited to be apart of this organization. Let’s get to work!”

The Spiders finished third in the German Football League South conference this past season but were knocked out in the quarterfinals by eventual finalists, the Dresden Monarchs.
