Sweden: Carlstad Crusaders roll to 52-6 win over Kristianstad Predators
In a decisive matchup this past weekend, the Carlstad Crusaders (3-0) cruised to a 52-6 victory over the Kristianstad Predators (0-3) at Kristianstad IP. With perfect weather conditions for football, the Crusaders showcased their offensive prowess and solid defense, continuing their undefeated streak in the Swedish Superserien.
Predators Start Strong but Struggle to Capitalize
The Predators surprised the Crusaders with an impressive opening drive. Quarterback Philip Juhlin connected with wide receiver Christopher Guillen on a 25-yard pass, advancing to the Crusaders‘ 35-yard line. However, Carlstad’s defense responded, forcing them to turn the ball over on downs.
Carlstad’s offense then took over with running back De’Anta Sipp scoring his first touchdown of the day from six yards out. The extra point attempt was missed, leaving the score at 6-0. The Predators had another chance to score, but Juhlin threw an interception to Yann Hinder, who fumbled the ball, allowing Kristianstad to regain possession. Unfortunately for the home team, they again failed to convert, turning the ball over on downs at the Crusaders‘ 38-yard line.
Crusaders Take Control
The Crusaders continued to dominate, with Sipp scoring again on a 30-yard run after a short pass from quarterback Jackson Erdmann. He then successfully converted a two-point attempt, extending the lead to 14-0 with just 37 seconds left in the first quarter.
Carlstad‘s defense stepped up, and a solid punt return by Rory Kelly set up a 33-yard field goal by Christofer Helgar, making it 17-0. Before halftime, Sipp added two more touchdowns, one on a 59-yard run and another on a 38-yard screen pass, bringing the halftime score to 31-0.
Second Half Dominance
The Crusaders started the second half with the ball, and after another impressive return by Kelly, Erdmann found Anton Jansson for a quick touchdown, pushing the lead to 38-0. The second half became a showcase for Carlstad‘s younger players, with Jonathan Skarman running in a 30-yard touchdown.
The Predators finally got on the board late in the game when Juhlin connected with Guillen for a touchdown. However, on the ensuing kickoff, Kristianstad made a surprising decision to kick to Sipp, who returned it 93 yards for his fifth touchdown of the day, sealing the game at 52-6.
Looking Ahead
The Crusaders demonstrated their efficiency on both the ground and through the air, with Sipp leading the way with five touchdowns and a two-point conversion for 32 points. The offensive line provided ample protection for Erdmann, allowing him to find open receivers. With this victory, Carlstad remains the only undefeated team in the league, setting their sights on their next game against AIK at Sola Arena on May 10. Meanwhile, the Predators will look to regroup and get ready to hit the road to face the Stockholm Mean Machines.
