Tokyo Gas Creators face Fujifilm Ebina Minerva AFC in key X League Premier battle
The Tokyo Gas Creators (2-4) face the Fujifilm Ebina Minerva AFC (3-3) Saturday at Ebina Sports Park Athletics Stadium in Ebina in an X League Premier matchup that could have a significant impact on both teams’ positions as the Fall Series moves toward its decisive stages.
Fujifilm Ebina enters fifth in the standings, while Tokyo Gas sits eighth. The Creators have historically had the better of the matchup, with two wins and a draw in their three previous meetings.
Wang gives Minerva a spark
The biggest change for Fujifilm Ebina is at quarterback.
Jameson Wang made an immediate impact in his X League Premier debut against ELECOM Kobe, completing 22 of 33 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns without an interception while adding another score on the ground.
With the game tied late, Wang directed an 83-yard drive and hit Jason-Matthew Sharsh for an earlier touchdown before finding Jo Kondo for the game-winning 46-yard score with 57 seconds remaining in a 21-14 victory.
The performance gave Fujifilm Ebina its third win and brought the club back to .500.
Creators need offensive response
Tokyo Gas comes in looking to recover from a 17-7 loss to the Nojima Sagamihara Rise.
The Creators struggled to establish the run, finishing with only 27 rushing yards, and did not reach the end zone until the closing minutes. Quarterback Yujin Taniguchi has thrown for 475 yards this season, while Justin Hobbs provides one of the primary targets in the passing game.
Turnovers could decide it
The Creators have a +3 turnover margin, while defensive back Soichiro Nishikawa enters with three interceptions.
That makes Wang’s ball security particularly important. His turnover-free debut provided Fujifilm Ebina with exactly what it needed offensively, and another composed performance could help Minerva finally break through against a Tokyo Gas team it has yet to defeat.
