Tokyo Gas Creators, Nojima Sagamihara Rise square off in key X League Premier matchup

The Tokyo Gas Creators (2-3) and Nojima Sagamihara Rise (2-2-1) meet Wednesday, September 23 with both teams carrying momentum into a pivotal X League Premier matchup.

Tokyo Gas comes in after a wild 27-17 win over the OrientalBio Silver Star, while Nojima Sagamihara has won two straight and is coming off a 31-7 victory over the same opponent.

Rise running game hits its stride

Nojima Sagamihara overwhelmed the Silver Star on the ground, pounding out 269 rushing yards on 41 carries.

Sho Yoshizawa led the way with 96 yards on 11 attempts, including a 38-yard burst on the opening drive. Masataka Hoshino added 75 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, while Makoto Shimizu chipped in 63 yards on 10 attempts.

That performance helped push the Rise to a league-best 130.2 rushing yards per game.

Quarterback Kurt Palandech also made his opportunities count. He completed 9 of 18 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns, twice finding Chase Cota in the end zone as Nojima Sagamihara raced out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead.

Tokyo Gas finds a way

Tokyo Gas took a much different route to its latest victory.

Linebacker Rei Serizawa blocked two punts against OrientalBio, with the first setting up a touchdown as the Creators began taking control before halftime.

The game flipped again in the fourth quarter when Tokyo Gas fell behind 17-13. Justin Hobbs immediately answered, taking the ensuing kickoff 95 yards to the end zone and putting the Creators back in front.

Serizawa’s second blocked punt helped set up another late touchdown as Tokyo Gas pulled away.

Two teams carrying momentum

Wednesday’s matchup offers an interesting contrast.

The Rise have found their rhythm by controlling the ground and staying on the field, converting 44.8% of their third downs. The Creators, meanwhile, showed against OrientalBio how quickly their special teams can change a game.

For Tokyo Gas, slowing Yoshizawa, Hoshino and the Nojima Sagamihara rushing attack will be central to the challenge. For the Rise, avoiding the special-teams mistakes that Tokyo Gas turned into points last week could be just as important.

Both teams arrive with some momentum. Wednesday will decide which one gets to keep it.
