UNAM Pumas victorious as playoffs loom in Mexico’s college season

The Mexican college football season is winding down as both the ONEFA – Organización Nacional Estudiantil de Futbol Americano (National Student Organization of American Football) and CONADEIP, Comisión Nacional Deportiva Estudiantil de Instituciones Privadas head into the post season.

ONEFA

Pumas UNAM 31-10 Aguilas Blancas IPN

A crowd of 35,000 + looked on Sunday as the UNAM Pumas (7-1) defeated the Aguilas Blancas IPN (5-3) 31-10 at the Olympic Stadium Mexico 68 in Mexico City.  The Pumas used a stifling, record-breaking defense to take control of the game.

The game was held at 10 o’clock in the morning, after being postponed from September and the stands were packed early on. The Pumas defense, which has allowed only 46 points in eight games (5.7 points per game) kept the powerful Aguilas offense at bay the entire game.

But the Pumas offense also stepped up in the classic game with running back Óscar Villagrán leading the way with a touchdown

Next week, Águilas Blancas will travel to Monterrey to face the Tigres UANL and Pumas UNAM will host the Burros Blancos.
