Unbeaten titans at top: Thonon Black Panthers and Cannes Iron Mask dominate French D1 Elite rankings

As we reach the home stretch of the French D1 Elite season, the competition is heating up, and the power rankings are starting to take shape. After six rounds of play, teams are beginning to establish their identities, with some rising to the top while others struggle to find their footing. The unbeaten Thonon Black Panthers and Cannes Iron Mask have emerged as formidable contenders, showcasing impressive performances.

Top teams stand out
The Black Panthers have been particularly dominant, boasting a 6-0 record and the highest scoring offense in the league. Meanwhile, the Iron Mask (6-0) have also made a statement with their impressive play, including back-to-back shutout wins (49-0, 49-0) against the Grenoble Centaures.

While the top teams shine, other squads are working hard to improve their standings. The Asnières Molosses and La Courneuve Flash are vying for playoff positions, while newcomers like the Fontenay Meteroes are surprising many with their competitive play. As the season unfolds, every game will be crucial for teams looking to solidify their rankings and make a push for the playoffs.

1. Thonon Black Panthers (6–0)
The defending champions continue to impress with dominating back-to-back wins (28-7, 47-0) over the Rouen Leopards. This team is playing like the team to beat once again.

2. Cannes Iron Mask (6–0)
Back to back lopsided shutouts of the Centaures (49-0, 49-0) show this squad is on a roll as they plow through the Southern Conference. Cannes could challenge for the title.

3. Asnières Molosses (3-3)
Their record is misleading. They have won three of their last four and that loss was a close 7-6 decision against the Flash. The Molosses seem to have found a rhythm and could surprise.

4. La Courneuve Flash (4-1-1)
In their back-to-back series against the Meteroes, the Flash struggled in the first game managing a 7-7 tie away before beating Fontenay 28-7 in the return game at home.  Still, they remain a top echelon team.

5. Fontenay Meteroes (3-2-1)
Newcomers this year, Fontenay still remains the early surprise of the league. However, their series against La Courneuve has bumped them down a notch and they will need to find their early season form in their final four games of the regular season.

6. Marseille Blue Stars (4-2)
After losing two of their first three games of the season, Marseille seems to have returned to form winning three straight including two (7-0, 25-17) against a tough Toulouse Ours team. They could muscle their way into a top spot in the Southern Conference still.

7. Grizzlys Catalans (4-2)
After winning three straight to open the season, the Grizzlys Catalans have stumbled losing two of their last three including a a 19-12 decision at home to the Argonautes. Although they gained a measure of revenge in blanking Aix-en-Provence on the road, 27-0, the next two games against the Iron Mask and Blue Stars could tell the tale.

8. Aix-en-Provence Argonautes (2-3-1)
After going winless in their opening three games of the season, the Argonautes have now won two fo their last three. But their 27-0 loss to the Grizzlys at home in their most recent outing kept them from advancing further in the rankings.

9. Rouen Leopards (1–5)
Rouen have lost four straight including two lopsided losses to the Black Panthers (28-7, 47-0). They have a rough road ahead and will need a win to stay out of the basement of the Northern Conference.

10. Toulouse Ours (1-5)
After beating the Centaures in game #3, Toulouse have lost three in a row, including their last two against Marseille (7-0, 25-17). They desperately need a win against the Argonautes and Centaures in their next two to move up in the rankings.

11. Villepinte Diables Rouges (0–6)
The Diables Rouge have slumped badly as the season has progressed suffering four straight lopsided losses including two to the Asnieres Molosses (50-7, 35-7). They are in for a rough road to finish the season.

12. Grenoble Centaures (0–5–1)
Their back-to-back shutout losses (49-0, 49-0) at the hands of the Cannes Iron Mask have buried Grenoble at the bottom of the rankings. Their prospects have sneaking in another win seem remote with the worst defense in the league.
