Warsaw Eagles shut out Warsaw Mets 10-0 in PFL showdown
In a hard-fought battle in the Polish Football League, the Warsaw Eagles (3-0) defeated the Warsaw Mets (1-1) 10-0, showcasing their defensive prowess in a game that mirrored their previous encounter in the 2025 Polish Bowl.
This latest installment of the Capital derby was marked by intense defensive play from both teams, making it a true chess match on the field.
Defensive Struggles Dominate the First Half
The game kicked off with both teams struggling to find their offensive rhythm. The Eagles started strong, with Bruno Waszkiewicz returning the opening kickoff to the 42-yard line, but their initial drive stalled against a tough Mets defense. Safety Deyleon Williams stopped Eagles WR Aleksander Dąda in his tracks, forcing the Eagles to punt.
The Mets attempted to establish their running game, relying on Krzysztof Andrukonis, but the Eagles’ defense, led by Darius Lewis, quickly shut down their efforts. The first quarter ended without any points, as both teams exchanged punts and failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Eagles Break the Stalemate
The second quarter continued the trend of defensive dominance, with neither team able to break through. The Eagles had a chance to score but failed to connect on a long pass to Jakub Sema. As the half concluded, both teams remained scoreless, with the Eagles’ defense consistently thwarting the Mets’ attempts to advance.
The third quarter finally saw the Eagles break the deadlock. After a blocked punt by the Mets, the Eagles regained possession deep in enemy territory. Filip Twardowski kicked a 23-yard field goal, putting the Eagles ahead 3-0.
Final Quarter Seals the Victory
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles extended their lead with a touchdown. Running back Jan Szwej’s powerful runs set up Clark Hazlett, who scored on a 6-yard rush. Twardowski added the extra point, bringing the score to 10-0. The Mets struggled to respond, unable to penetrate the Eagles’ defense, which held firm until the final whistle.
With the win, the Eagles solidified their position at the top of the Polish Football League standings. The win may not have been flashy, but a win is a win. The Eagles will look to build on this momentum as they head to Lublin to face the Titans next week, while the Mets will play host to the Bialystok Lowlanders.
