Calanda Broncos look to extend winning streak against Thun Tigers in Swiss National League
The defending Swiss champion Calanda Broncos (2-0) will play host to the Thun Tigers (0-0) this Easter Monday at Obere Au field in Chur in a matchup of the Swiss National League.
The Broncos have opened the season with two straight wins, dominating the Zurich Renegades 75-0 and edging out the Basel Gladiators 35-28 in a rematch of the 2025 Swiss title game, which Calanda won 41-28.
This is the season opener for the Thun Tigers, who were scheduled to play against the Zurich Renegades last weekend, but that game was rained out.
These two teams faced each other twice in 2025 with Calanda coming out on top both times. The Broncos defeated Thun 46-27 during the regular season and then 32-7 in the semifinals.
Calanda’s strong start
The Broncos have showcased a powerful offense, led by quarterback Robin Sennrich, who has thrown for eight touchdowns without an interception and added one rushing touchdown. Tight end Tommy Smith has been a key target, recording three receiving touchdowns and rushing for 100 yards against Basel. The dynamic running back tandem of Noah Bachofen and Amel Adjovi has combined for five rushing touchdowns through the first two games, making Calanda a formidable opponent.
On defense, the Broncos have been equally impressive, with linebacker Cole Brockwell leading the charge with 10 tackles last week against Basel. Lucio Tettamanti and Flavio Gisler have also been standout performers, contributing to a strong defensive unit.
Thun’s season opener
Thun will look to make a strong impression in their first game of the season. Key players to watch include quarterback Nicolas Leibundgut, running back Noah Gygax, and the wide receiver duo of Simon Purtscheller and Thomas Gfeller. On defense, DB Noah Belanga and DL Mario Wirth will be crucial in trying to contain Calanda’s explosive offense.
As the Broncos aim to maintain their perfect record, the Tigers will be eager to start their season on a high note.
