DC Defenders and Louisville Kings set for United Bowl showdown

The United Football League championship game is set as the DC Defenders and Louisville Kings meet in the United Bowl at Audi Field, with the defending champions trying to repeat and the expansion Kings chasing a title in their inaugural season.

These teams know each other well. Louisville defeated DC twice during the regular season, helping fuel the league’s most dramatic turnaround while sending the Defenders into a late-season slide. Now the stakes are much higher.

Defenders seeking another championship

The road back to the title game has been anything but smooth for the Defenders.

After opening the season 5-1, DC dropped four straight games and lost starting quarterback Jordan Ta’amu to a season-ending injury. The spotlight then shifted to Jason Bean, who stepped into the starting role and helped guide the defending champions back to the United Bowl.

Bean delivered a strong performance in the semifinal win over Orlando, while Deon Jackson and Abram Smith powered a rushing attack that produced 172 yards. Defensively, Derick Roberson helped lead a unit that once again showed why it was among the league’s most disruptive groups throughout the season.

Kings completing a remarkable turnaround

Few teams have experienced a season like the Louisville Kings.

After an 0-3 start, the Kings won six of their final seven regular-season games before knocking off St. Louis in the semifinals. Chandler Rogers helped stabilize the offense after taking over at quarterback, while the defense developed into one of the league’s most opportunistic units.

The rushing attack has become a major strength. James Robinson and Ian Wheeler delivered explosive touchdown runs in the semifinal victory, while Tanner Brown continued his historic season by drilling two field goals from 60-plus yards.

Louisville’s defense also came up big, with Cam Gill, Jahiem Thomas and Steele Chambers helping shut the door on St. Louis.

Quarterbacks in the spotlight

One of the most fascinating storylines involves the quarterbacks.

Jason Bean began the season with Louisville before being traded to DC. Taking over for the Kings was Chandler Rogers, who helped spark the team’s dramatic turnaround. The former Lake Ridge High School teammates now meet with a championship on the line.

Both teams excel at creating turnovers, both run the football effectively, and both feature kickers capable of changing games from long range.
