LIVESTREAM Denmark: Copenhagen Towers @ Triangle Razorbacks, Aug. 22, 15:00 CET (9:00 ET)

Saturday August 22nd features a rematch of last year’s Danish Mermaid Bowl championship with the Copenhagen Towers visiting the Triangle Razorbacks. Both teams won their first game of the season and hungry to keep the winning feeling against an all too familiar opponent.

The visiting Towers are coming off of a thrilling come-from-behind 29-26 victory over a talented Sollerod Gold Diggers team after trailing early in the game 18-0. A long touchdown pass by Calvin Stitt and a defensive touchdown in the third quarter helped spark the comeback getting the Towers within striking distance. The fourth quarter was taken over by the Towers as quarterback Kasper Skyum who entered the game and threw two touchdown passes to receiver Mike Williams. The Towers best play of the game was their successful onside kick by Jacob Niemann Green. Green shared his thoughts on the game.

“It was probably the craziest game I’ve been a part of. And it’s no secret that the first half was the worst football we’ve played in years. We practiced it [the onside kick] all week, and I think that was the best kick of all of them. To beat the Razorbacks this week, we need to play well from beginning, because if we don’t wake up until the second half, I’m sure the Razorbacks are gonna punish us.”

The Towers defense will have their hands full again this week with the Razorbacks potent offense. They will need to force turnovers like they did against the Gold Diggers to get them back in the game. Copenhagen has a ton of momentum after that comeback win and will need to keep that fire to beat a good Razorbacks team.

The Razorbacks won last week 41-6 against the Aarhus Tigers. The star of last week was Spanish running back Adrian Jimenez. Jimenez showed off his strength carrying defenders on his way to 170 yards and two touchdowns rushing. The Razorbacks ran the ball exceptionally well between the trio of Jimenenz, Johan Bang Andersen, and Nico Lester. Defensively the Razorbacks looked great as well. The new linebacker Niko Knoblauch made some key tackles throughout the game. Nico Lester commented on how the team has meshed well with their new players.

“We definitely added some pieces, but at the end of the day we have to come together as the Triangle Razorbacks team, as we always do, stick together, pick each other up, and give it all we got. Play after play, win or lose, I’m pretty confident to say that we will again let it all on the field and of course are aiming for the championship. The Razorbacks have built a winning mentality over the years, even before my time here, and I think that’s the key for our success.”

This game features two of the best teams in Denmark and could be a preview of the 2020 Mermaid Bowl. It will be great to see how these teams stack up against each other in a short season where every game matters.
