European League of Football: Leipzig Kings sign top Japanese WR Yoshihito Omi

Leipzig Kings head coach Fred Armstrong has added another star player from Japan’s X League to his team with the signing of IBM Big Blue wide receiver Yoshihito Omi.

Armstrong had already signed two-time X League champion and 2019 X League MVP quarterback Michael Birdsong.

The 6′, 188 pound, 25 year old Omi led the entire X League in receiving in 2019 with 33 catches for 544 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games. He was the captain of the Japanese national team that played against The Spring League all star team in 2020 which saw the TSL prevail 36-16.

Omi is very familiar with his quarterback having played against him for two seasons:

“Michael knows exactly what to expect from me and what I can expect from him. Since we  already know each other, we will have a lot of fun on the football field. Now I want to show that Japan can also produce good players who can compete with European and American players.

Yoshihito Omi could cause significant problems for opposing pass defenders, according to head coach Fred Armstrong, who is excited about his next offensive weapon:

“He runs great passing routes and is especially dangerous after the catch. I think he’s capable of taking on the challenges defensively that await him in the European League of Football.”

The Kings open their European League of Football season on June 20 in Berlin against the Berlin Thunder.
