LIVESTREAM Germany: Allgäu Comets @ Ravensburg Razorbacks, July 31, 16:45 CET (4:45 pm, 10:45 am ET)

The Allgäu Comets (2-1) will travel west to visit the Ravensburg Razorbacks (3-2) in this highly anticipated GFL South matchup.

Both teams have looked primed for the postseason and see this as a vital game as the playoff race begins to tighten. Expect Ravensburg to play well at home as this potential playoff proving ground match-up will be broadcast on national television in Germany, adding more eyes to this big-time game.

Ravensburg enters the second half of the GFL season at 3-2, coming off the heels of a dramatic 14-7 victory in Stuttgart. Tight end Ryan Smith has been the main catalyst for the offense as the 6’4 former Green Bay Packers has amassed 609 receiving yards at the league’s halfway point. On the ground, expect Lennies Mcferren to get plenty of carries as the powerful tailback has the strength to run through arm tackles. Mcferren should have some extra fire in the tank today as he faces his former team. Offensive coordinator Augie Stevens will have two capable quarterbacks at his disposal as Danish national team passer Alexander Kronberg-Bjerre and American Ryan Deal have both found ways to get this offense rolling. Expect Deal to get the majority of the snaps as he’s been the starter for most of the season. The veteran passer should be back from an injury he suffered earlier this month.

The Razorback’s defense must execute today against a talented Comets offense. Linebackers Jeremy Conley and Stanley Zeregbe provide sure tackling and a fierce pass rush. The athletic duo aims to get pressure on the quarterback despite being lined up across from an experienced Allgäu offensive line. in the middle of the defense, nose tackle Lucas Walk is determined to hold his gap as the Comets come to town with a powerful rushing attack averaging 126 yards a game.

British running back Glenn Toonga leads the charge for the Comets offense as the former London Blitz standout has run for 94 yards a game to go along with three total touchdowns.  Versatile veteran Brandon Kohn is another weapon that comes in handy for quarterback Mclane Carter. Carter is an athletic left-hander out of Texas Tech (NCAA D1) who has shown the ability to move the sticks with his legs and deliver accurate passes in his first international season. Allgäu’s signal-caller must get this offense in rhythm as the Comets were held to only one touchdown in their last game.

Allgäu’s team strength is their defense without question. This veteran front seven is the strongest part of their team as many of these players have been playing next to each other for years. Linebackers Niall Padden and Kevin Titz seem to have the toughest matchup as they’ll have to cover the league’s top tight end in Ryan Smith. Pass rushers Jonell Pelie, Johannes Wagner, and Pidi Arentsen expect to slow down this passing attack and shut down former Comet running back Lennies Mcferren.

In a crowded GFL South, talented teams such as the Munich Cowboys (3-3), Marburg Mercenaries (2-3), Saarland Hurricanes (4-1), and of course the undefeated Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (4-0) are poised for the playoffs. Both the Razorbacks (3-2) and the Comets (2-1) need every win they can get to be one of the four top seeds. The Comets are determined to be back in the post-season after an underachieving 2019 season. While the Razorbacks would love to prove they belong and make the playoffs in their first season in Germany’s top league.
