Munich Cowboys hire first ever female head coach with the signing of Nadine Nurasyid

The Munich Cowboys of the German Football League have blazed a bold new trail with the signing of Nadine Nurasyid as their head coach for the 2022 season.

It will mark the first time that a German Football League team will be led by a female head coach. Although to the rest of the football world it may seem like a daring move, to the Cowboys, it is only a natural progression as Nurasyid has been an important part of the organization since 2018 and in 2021 served as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Munich’s President Werner L Maier is thrilled to have the Nurasyid’s experience and leadership back on the sideline this year:

“We have decided on a new path as a club and are pleased to have signed Nadine as the new head coach. She is an absolute football expert and a meticulous worker. In her previous coaching activities, she did an excellent job and showed that you can put a team on the road to success with diligence, commitment, and enormous expertise.

The 35-year-old has definitely been a key assistant within the Cowboys organization over the past three years. Last season, as defensive coordinator, Nurasyid led the Cowboys to the second-best scoring defense and third-best defense in terms of yards given up in the entire league. Before signaling in coverages, Nurasyid worked as the Cowboy’s defensive backs coach.

Prior to joining the Cowboys organization, Nurasyid was the defensive coordinator and defensive back coach with the Straubing Spiders in the GFL2. Munich’s new head coach has also recently been added to the German National team coaching staff.

Preceding her transition to coaching, Nurasyid was an accomplished player in her own right. Nurasyid reached the women’s championship game with the Munich Cowboys Ladies 2018 and was voted MVP. As a member German national team, she helped her squad to a third-place finish in the women’s European championships in 2015. As a flag football player, she also was a key fixture in the German national team’s second-place finish in 2017.

Overall, Nurasyid brings over 20 years of valuable coaching, playing, athletic training, fitness, and personal training knowledge to the Cowboys sideline. Nurasyid hopes to get Munich back into the playoffs in 2022, as the competitive GFL South will be filled with talented teams next season.
