GFL: New Yorker Lions sign All Ivy League LB Nigel Alexander

The New Yorker Lions Braunschweig of the German Football League (GFL) have signed American linebacker Nigel Alexander.

The former Ivy League standout is excited to be taking his talents to Germany, joining one of the GFL’s top programs:

“I chose the Lions because I think Coach Tomlin is a great coach and I believe his record and history speaks for itself. He is the type of coach that I would love to play for and win with.”

The 6’1 225-pound defender was a standout player at Dartmouth College (NCAA D1 FCS). While playing in the Ivy League, the Orlando, Florida native racked up 123 total tackles and eight tackles for a loss. Alexander was named first-team all-conference his senior year in 2019, making 69 tackles and five tackles for a loss. The 23-year-old is eager to get back on the field after two years without football during the pandemic.

Alexander joins a Lions defense that has brought back key domestic talents in Sam Kargel and Benjamin Krahl. Fans can expect coach Troy Tomlin to have the Lions making another playoff run as Braunschweig looks to return to the German Bowl after an atypical early post-season exit this past season. Tomlin has already signed imports in Italian receiver Tasmir Seck and former Portland State pass-catcher Isaiah Woods.
