AFLE Week 10: Playoff race intensifies as contenders hit the road

With only two weeks remaining in the American Football League Europe regular season, every game carries added importance. The unbeaten Vienna Vikings (8-0) look to maintain their perfect record, the Wroclaw Panthers (6-2) aim to keep pace with the league’s top two teams, and the Rhein Fire (5-2) will try to bounce back from its first loss in more than a month. Meanwhile, the Alpine Rams, Paris Lights and Firenze Red Lions are all hoping to finish the season on a positive note.

The Wroclaw Panthers return home after last week’s dominant 62-0 victory over the Firenze Red Lions looking to continue their march toward the postseason. Quarterback Jameson Wang has been one of AFLE’s top offensive performers, throwing for 1,858 yards and 22 touchdowns, while running back Dawid Brzozowski remains second in the league in rushing despite missing last week’s game.

The Alpine Rams enter the contest at 1-6 following a 40-17 loss to the Berlin Thunder. They’ll need to limit turnovers and slow one of the league’s most balanced offenses if they hope to stay competitive against one of AFLE’s championship contenders.

The unbeaten Vienna Vikings travel to Firenze after strengthening their hold on first place with a 28-16 victory over the Rhein Fire. Quarterback Ben Holmes continues to direct one of AFLE’s most efficient offenses, while backup Nico Hrouda has also shown he can keep the unit moving when called upon.

The Firenze Red Lions continue to search for their first victory of the season but have shown encouraging signs in the passing game with quarterback Harrison Roubidoux and wide receiver Keith Coffee II developing a productive connection. Facing the league’s only unbeaten team, however, will provide another stern test for the Red Lions as Vienna looks to complete another successful weekend on the road.

The Rhein Fire head to Paris looking to rebound after suffering their first defeat since Week 2, a 28-16 loss to the Vienna Vikings. The first meeting between these clubs ended in a convincing 35-0 victory for the Fire, but both teams have changed since then.

The Paris Lights have made a coaching change with Aaron Page taking over, while new addition Seth Robertson reunites with quarterback Evan Hillock after the two previously played together at Western University. Paris will look for improved offensive chemistry as it tries to keep pace with one of the league’s strongest defenses.
