Austria: AFC Vienna Vikings cruise past Fehérvár Enthroners to strengthen playoff position

The AFC Vienna Vikings (5-4) delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, defeating the Fehérvár Enthroners (2-7) 35-7 at the Ravelinstraße Football Centre in Vienna to pick up an important Austrian Football League victory.

Vikings take charge early

The home side wasted little time taking control.

With backup quarterback Rudi-Lee Frey leading the offense, the Vikings opened the scoring in the first quarter when Frey connected with Jordan Kress on a perfectly placed 34-yard touchdown pass on third down. The score gave Vienna a 7-0 lead and set the tone for the afternoon.

The momentum continued in the second quarter as the Vikings added two more touchdowns, building a comfortable 21-0 halftime advantage while controlling both sides of the ball.

Defense sets the tone

While the offense steadily added points, the Vienna defense turned in one of its strongest performances of the year.

The unit consistently pressured the Fehérvár offense and limited opportunities for the visitors’ dangerous quarterback. The Enthroners struggled to establish any rhythm and were largely kept off the scoreboard through three quarters.

By the end of the third period, the Vikings had stretched their lead to 28-0 and appeared firmly in command.

Late score changes little

The lone bright spot for the visitors came in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 28-0, the Enthroners finally broke through with a spectacular kickoff return touchdown to avoid the shutout and cut the deficit to 28-7.

Any hopes of a late comeback were quickly extinguished, however, as the Vikings answered with one final touchdown drive to complete the 35-7 victory.

The win moves Vienna to 5-4 on the season and provides valuable momentum heading into next week’s Charity Bowl matchup against the Danube Dragons. For the Fehérvár Enthroners, the defeat drops them to 2-7, but their playoff hopes remain alive heading into a crucial regular-season finale against the Vienna Knights.
