Battle Looming Between Two Undefeated Teams In Serbia

This weekend, the Kragujevac Wild Boars will play host to the SBB Vukovi Belgrade in a game pitting the top offense in Serbia against the best defense.

Vukovi, six-time title holders and perennial favorites for the Serbian crown, have opened the 2106 season in style reeling off four straight victories while scoring 203 points and allowing only 67. Kragujevac, who has been the undisputed champion in Serbia five times (2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010), is not far behind with 143 points while giving up a mere 41, 10 points a game. They have had two shutouts along the way.

Both teams have beaten the defending champion Novi Sad GAT Dukes, and both teams have changed head coaches this year.

Belgrade has welcomed back head coach Sean Embree while Kragujevac have yet to replace recently departed coach Mike Messer. However, Vukovi has just announced that double gold winning coach Malik Jackson, former head coach of Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders and Bern Grizzlies in Switzerland has joined the coaching staff.

Vukovi’s offense relies on new quarterback John Uribe who has a potent backfield with running back Mihailo Josović and the highly versatile receiver Tony Washington.

Meanwhile the upstart Wild Boars, who had been on a decline in recent years in Serbia pin their hopes on quarterback Jamie Blunt and receiver Gabriel Chambers, who has been outstanding this season. He won the Polish championship in 2015 with the Gdynia Seahawks.
