Germany: Braunschweig Lions add American DB Tyler Boatwright to bolster 2026 defense
The Braunschweig Lions have made a significant move to strengthen their secondary, signing defensive back Tyler Boatwright for the 2026 German Football League season.
International experience for the Lions defense
The 26-year-old from Hillsborough, New Jersey brings an impressive blend of speed, athleticism, and high-level experience to the Lions‘ pass defense. Standing at 6-1 and 180 pounds, Boatwright’s strong understanding of the game should provide an immediate upgrade to Braunschweig’s defensive backfield.
Proven collegiate performer
Boatwright developed his skills at the NCAA Division I level with Central Connecticut State University, where he appeared in 33 games between 2018-2023. His college production was solid with 71 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 22 pass breakups, establishing himself as a reliable and versatile defensive back at the FCS level.
Professional pedigree
The newcomer brings legitimate professional experience, having received NFL mini-camp invitations from both the New York Giants and New York Jets in 2024. He further developed his skills with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL in 2025 and drew interest from the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL.
