Braunschweig Lions erase 20-point deficit, stun Berlin Rebels in final seconds
The Braunschweig Lions (4-8) stormed back from a 20-point deficit Saturday, scoring 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to stun the Berlin Rebels (2-9) 23-20 in their German Football League season finale in Berlin.
Rebels race out in front
The Rebels could hardly have started better. Tyquell Fields quickly moved the offense downfield and hit Filip Uderhardt for a 15-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
While Braunschweig struggled to find any rhythm, Berlin struck again. Jessey Darby broke loose for a 32-yard touchdown run, pushing the advantage to 14-0.
Fields then took matters into his own hands in the second quarter, racing 11 yards into the end zone to make it 20-0. Paul Seifert added an interception as the Rebels threatened to take complete control.
But the Lions defense slammed the door from there. Mark-Robin Peschelt finally got Braunschweig on the board with a 27-yard field goal before halftime, cutting the deficit to 20-3.

Braunschweig defense changes the game
The Lions threatened again in the third quarter, moving to the Berlin five before Q Bouldin intercepted Ryon Thomas and returned the ball to midfield.
The turnover could have given the Rebels another chance to stretch the lead. Instead, the Braunschweig defense held firm and kept Berlin scoreless for the entire second half.
That gave Thomas and the offense time to find their footing.
Lions erupt in the fourth
Finn Wilts punched the ball in from one yard early in the fourth quarter to make it 20-9. After another defensive stop, Thomas marched the Lions back downfield and connected with Leon Kusterer for an 18-yard touchdown. A two-point pass to Peter Anderson suddenly pulled Braunschweig within 20-17.
The Rebels still had opportunities to finish the game, but the Lions defense kept giving Thomas another chance.

Wilts delivers the knockout
With roughly 90 seconds remaining, Braunschweig took possession at its own five. Thomas moved the Lions out to the 43, leaving time for one final shot.
He took it.
Thomas launched the ball deep to Wilts, who hauled it in and raced untouched for a 57-yard touchdown, completing the comeback and giving Braunschweig a 23-20 lead.
Berlin had one last opportunity, but Kris Cain’s 48-yard field-goal attempt missed, sealing a remarkable Lions victory and a dramatic end to their 2026 season.
