Brazil: Sampa Bowl – Corinthians Steamrollers face the Rio Preto Weilers in São Paulo Football League title game

The Sampa Bowl, the São Paulo Football League championship final, is set! The Corinthians Steamrollers and Rio Preto Weilers will battle for the right to call themselves the best of the state of São Paulo in Brazil!

The Corinthians Steamrollers and Rio Preto Weilers had the best records during the regular season of the São Paulo Football League and now will face each other on July 14th at 13:30 (Brasilia Time) at the Iberapuera Park in São Paulo. The game will be televised by one of Brazil’s top TV station, BAND, and in its international channel, BAND INTERNATIONAL which will televise the game to six countries, including the United States, Argentina, Mozambique, Angola, Uruguay and Paraguay.

The Corinthians Steamrollers are the only undefeated team in the competition and hold the best defensive and offensive numbers in the league. The Steamrollers have not been scored on in 5 out of 6 games played this year. They will be playing in the final after defeating rivals São Paulo Storm 12-0 in the semifinals last weekend. American quarterback Lee Wells has not been sacked during the entire 2019 league. The Steamrollers are playing for their fifth São Paulo state title.

After a combination of results helped the Rio Preto Weilers qualify for the semifinals, the Weilers faced the Jundiai Ocelots. at the semifinals. The Weilers defeated the Jundiai Ocelots 35-13 to guarantee a spot in the São Paulo Football League. Running back Cody Lamoreaux, who at times plays quarterback for the team from São José do Rio Preto in the state of São Paulo, is one of the Weilers biggest contributor. The Weilers have reached the São Paulo Football League final for the second time in consecutive years.

The Steamrollers and Weilers have played each other twice in the history of the São Paulo Football League, and the Weilers are 2-0 against the Steamrollers. Both games were played during the 2018 edition and the Weilers won 32-0 during the regular season and eliminated the Steamrollers with a win of 21-6 during last year’s São Paulo Football League semifinal.
