Brazil: Vila Velha Tritoes blank Sao Paolo Storm in downpour

The Vila Velha Tritoes evened their record at 1-1 Sunday after defeating the Sao Paolo Storm 27-0 at Kléber Andrade Stadium, just outside of Vila Velha.

Playing at times in a downpour that virtually threatened to wash both teams right off the field, the Tritoes took control early and never let the Storm into the game.

Vila Velha quarterback Laparish Lewis completed 14 of 20 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown while adding another 94 yards rushing. Wide receiver Stephan Cirilo had six catches for 68 yards and a TD. In total, the Tritoes amassed 182 yards rushing.

On defense, the Tritoes were led by Leonardo Bortoli with six tackles and a pick six as well as Vinicius Campagno who recorded eight tackles.

The Storm were held to a total of 90 yards of offense, 65 yards rushing and 25 yards passing.

The 30 team BFA, Brazil’s top league, has a protracted schedule with six divisions. Teams play anywhere from four to six regular season games with the playoffs getting underway in early October.
