Butchers crush Roosters 63-12, storm into Maple Bowl XLVII

The Porvoon Butchers left no doubt about who belonged in the Maple Bowl, overwhelming the Helsinki Roosters 63-12 Saturday at Porvoo Central Field to book a championship showdown with the Seinäjoki Crocodiles.

The defending champions exploded to a 21-0 first-quarter lead, stretched it to 42-0 by halftime and didn’t allow the Roosters onto the scoreboard until the margin had reached 63-0.

Isom ignites the rout

Donovan Isom wasted no time setting the tone, breaking loose for a 45-yard run on the opening play.

From there, the Butchers kept pouring it on. Isom threw five touchdown passes and ran for another score as Porvoo tore through a Helsinki defense that never found a way to slow the attack.

Keith Coffee was Isom’s biggest scoring threat, hauling in three touchdown passes. With the game firmly under control, Porvoo turned to backup quarterback Teemu Hautakangas in the third quarter.

The numbers reflected just how one-sided the afternoon became. The Butchers piled up 405 yards while holding the Roosters to 99.

The only major concern for Porvoon came late in the second quarter when Luukas Eerola went down with an injury. His status now becomes something to watch with the championship game a week away.

Butchers defense piles on

The Porvoo defense made sure the Roosters never had an opportunity to work their way back into the game.

Helsinki turned the ball over six times, including three interceptions thrown by Ambro Urjansson. Niko Roiko picked off two passes for the Butchers, while Timi Nuikka recorded six tackles.

The Roosters managed only three passing yards. Urjansson completed three of 11 attempts, with as many passes landing in the hands of Porvoo defenders as his own receivers.

Will Lydle provided one of the bright spots for Helsinki’s defense, finishing with 9.5 tackles, including 3.5 behind the line of scrimmage.

Roosters finally break through

The Roosters didn’t find the end zone until the fourth quarter.

Brandon Gwinner came in and connected with Rene Rautiainen for a touchdown on his only pass attempt. Zach Wright supplied the other score by taking a punt back for a touchdown.

By then, however, the Butchers had long since put the semifinal away.

Porvoon gets another shot at the title

The victory sends the Butchers to the Maple Bowl for the second straight season as they chase the ninth Finnish championship in club history.

Porvoon once dominated Finnish football with six consecutive titles from 2005 through 2010. After rolling unbeaten to the championship last season, the Butchers haven’t been quite as dominant in 2026 — until Saturday.

Now the defending champions head to Bolt Arena in Helsinki on September 12 to face the Crocodiles in Maple Bowl XLVII, with Porvoon one victory away from turning last year’s championship into the start of another title run.
