CFL: Edmonton Elks sign Last Chance U Star DT Ronald Ollie

The Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League have signed former Last Chance U star and Oakland Raider Ronald Ollie.

One of the show’s all-time characters and standout defensive linemen, Ollie now takes his third crack at the CFL as he hopes to continue to chase his pro-football goals.

The 6’3″, 310-pound defensive tackle spent two seasons at Nicholls State (NCAA DI FCS) in 2016 and 2018 where he tallied 74 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, seven sacks and two fumble recoveries in 22 games for the Colonels. The now 26-year-old Shubuta, Mississippi-born defender earned All-Southland Honorable Mention honors his senior season racking up 33 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, five sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick.

He started his collegiate career at East Mississippi Community College in 2014 and 2015. During his time with East Mississippi, Ollie was one of the stars of the hit Netflix reality show ‘Last Chance U’ during its first season and was named All-State Second Team Defense in 2015. In his final season for EMCC, Ollie was a fan favorite on and off the field sharing his story and NFL dreams candidly with the camera crew, while making 30 tackles, two forced fumbles, and one interception.

Ollie attended NFL training camp with the Oakland Raiders in 2019 where he was once again in front of the cameras as a primary subject of the TV show Hard Knocks alongside Antonio Brown, Derrick Carr, and John Gruden. After his short NFL stint, he signed with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts in 2020 and spent training camp with the Argos in 2021. Ollie hopes to make the Elks and keep his pro-football dreams alive after failing to make Toronto’s roster last season, and having the CFL season canceled the year before in 2020.
