CFL selects 5 Japanese players for the Global Combine in Toronto

The Canadian Football League (CFL) has selected five Japanese players for the Global Combine which runs from March 24-27.

CFL scouts were impressed with the talent at the March 5 CFL Global Combine in Japan and extended invites to Toronto’s combine to five well-deserving players:

The five players selected for the Global Combine:

Riki Matsui (Fujitsu Frontiers WR)
Naoyuki Saikawa (Fujitsu Frontiers DL)
Yuya Watanabe (Fujitsu Frontiers DB)

The CFL Combine in Japan featured 23 dream-chasing Japanese players, all of whom competed in typical combine drills such as the 40-yard dash, bench press, and broad jump, along with on field position-based drills to test their skills.

The Japanese X-League signed a partnership with the CFL in 2019, and through this partnership, a domestic combine has been held for Japanese players ever since 2020.

Let’s take a look at the five invites below

Before embarking on his international football journey, Omi led the entire X League in receiving in 2019 with 33 catches for 544 yards and seven touchdowns as a member of the IBM Big Blue. He was also captain of the Japanese national team. Read more about Omi here:
