D.C. Defenders dominate Birmingham Stallions in UFL showdown
The D.C. Defenders (4-1) extended their winning streak to four games, overpowering the Birmingham Stallions (1-4) with a decisive 45-28 victory. Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu delivered an impressive performance, throwing for 275 yards and four touchdowns, while the Defenders’ defense showcased their prowess with three turnovers and five sacks.
Fast start for the Defenders
D.C. set the tone early, with Erik Ezukanma igniting the crowd with a 68-yard kick return. Ta’amu quickly capitalized, connecting with Javon Antonio for a 13-yard touchdown on the opening drive. The Stallions responded with their own offensive push, led by Dorian Thompson-Robinson, but a diving interception by Deontay Anderson halted their momentum.
Stallions fight back
Birmingham’s defense stepped up, forcing a sack on Ta’amu, which allowed the Stallions to capitalize on a short field. DTR found Deon Cain for a touchdown, narrowing the gap to 7-6. However, D.C. quickly regained control, with Xazavian Valladay scoring from two yards out to extend the lead to 14-6.
Defenders pull away
The Defenders’ defense struck again, forcing a fumble that led to a 45-yard touchdown pass from Ta’amu to Ty Scott, pushing the score to 21-6. Despite a late first-half drive by Birmingham that ended in a touchdown, D.C. maintained a 21-13 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Birmingham cut the deficit to 21-19 with a one-yard touchdown run by Snoop Conner. However, Ta’amu responded connecting with Scott for a touchdown. Matt McCrane booted a field goal to extend the lead to 31-19.
D.C. seals the victory
The Defenders continued to dominate, with Valladay scoring his second touchdown of the night, and Ta’amu adding another touchdown pass to Briley Moore. Dorian Thompson-Robinson managed a late score for Birmingham, but it wasn’t enough to overcome D.C.’s commanding performance.
With this victory, the Defenders look ahead to a crucial matchup against the Dallas Renegades next Saturday, while the Stallions will regroup and seek to turn their season around.
