Dallas Renegades advance to 2-0, defeating St. Louis Battlehawks 31-15
In an impressive display of offensive firepower, the Dallas Renegades (2-0) defeated the St. Louis Battlehawks (1-1) in United Football League second round action. The Renegades showcased their talent on both sides of the ball, with quarterback Austin Reed and wide receiver Tyler Vaughns leading the charge in a game that highlighted their potential for the season.
Vaughns shines bright
Tyler Vaughns had a night to remember, breaking a UFL single-game regular season record with 11 receptions for 146 yards and three touchdowns. From the opening drive, it was clear that Vaughns and Reed were in sync, connecting multiple times, including a touchdown that capped off a quick six-play, 68-yard drive. Vaughns’ performance set the tone for the game and demonstrated his growth as a key player for the Renegades.
Strong start for the Renegades
After Vaughns’ early touchdown, the teams exchanged field goals, giving Dallas a 9-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Although the Renegades struggled to establish a consistent running game, a 50-yard burst from Dae Dae Hunter set up Reed’s second touchdown pass to Greg Ward, who fought through defenders to score. The Renegades’ defense was a standout, limiting the Battlehawks to just three points in the first half and allowing Dallas to head into halftime with a comfortable 17-3 lead.
Fourth quarter fireworks
The fourth quarter turned into a scoring frenzy, with Reed connecting with Vaughns for a second touchdown, extending the lead to 24-6. St. Louis fought back with a 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended in a touchdown from Tyler Neville, marking his second score in as many games. The Battlehawks then executed the first three-point conversion of the season, narrowing the gap to nine points.
However, the Renegades’ defense stepped up again, forcing a quick three-and-out. Reed seized the opportunity to put the game away, launching a deep pass to Vaughns for a third touchdown, sealing the victory for Dallas. With no sacks allowed this week, the Renegades’ offensive line showed significant improvement, providing Reed with the protection he needed to finish with 240 passing yards and four touchdowns. Vaughns’ standout performance solidified his role as a key offensive weapon, and the Renegades are looking strong as they continue their quest for success in the UFL.
