GFL Week 15 preview: Playoff races heat up with crucial games across Germany

With the German Football League regular season entering its closing stretch, Saturday’s games put playoff positioning and the fight to avoid the playdowns squarely in the spotlight. The Dresden Monarchs, Potsdam Royals and Hildesheim Invaders have already secured postseason places in the North, while the battle for the final berth remains wide open. In the South, the Pforzheim Wilddogs, Munich Cowboys and Ravensburg Razorbacks are fighting for position behind the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.

Düsseldorf Panther (3-6) @ Berlin Rebels (2-6)

This is about as close to a playoff elimination game as it gets. A Düsseldorf victory would put the Panthers in control of the race for fourth place in the North, while the Rebels desperately need a win to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Pforzheim Wilddogs (7-3) @ Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (2-7)

The Wilddogs head north with an opportunity to tighten their grip on second place in the South. Kiel, meanwhile, needs victories down the stretch to climb away from seventh place and the threat of the playdowns.

Ravensburg Razorbacks (6-3) @ Munich Cowboys (5-4)

Two of the South’s playoff contenders meet with positioning at stake. The Cowboys and Razorbacks have both produced plenty of offense this season, and the winner will take a major step toward securing the better postseason seed.

Straubing Spiders (0-9) @ Regensburg Phoenix (4-5)

The Phoenix return home one week after beating Straubing 42-14. Cameron Yowell threw five touchdown passes in that victory, four of them to Nicolas Hayes, while Nebechi Abana rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown.

Allgäu Comets (1-8) @ Saarland Hurricanes (1-8)

With neither team able to reach the playoff places, this matchup carries major implications at the other end of the standings. Both enter with only one victory, making their head-to-head meetings critical in the battle to avoid the playdowns.

Potsdam Royals (8-1) @ Braunschweig Lions (3-7)

The Royals remain in the hunt for the North’s top seed but need help catching unbeaten Dresden. The Lions need a strong finish as they try to stay clear of the North’s playdown position.
